There have been 2 new evolutions in HiDPI monitors announced this week.

Asus nave announced a 5K LCD monitor with 180HZ or 330HZ in QHD mode.

And BOC have announced an 8K panel with 120HZ or 240HZ in 4K mode:

So the competition have now truly superseded Apple, but if they add Mini LED to these screens could they not possibly be the screens Apple uses for it’s new monitors that are rumoured?

Is there any pricing information available?
And: Does the 27" 5K monitor have a glossy coating or another one of those unacceptable matte coatings?

No pricing I don’t think as yet, also the website doesn’t state if it is matte or glossy, but if I recall Asus likes glossy panels?

Yeah, that's pretty terrible news, because the Apple of the past would have locked up those 8K panels to introduce the latest and greatest. And now, Tim Apple has made Apple into a laggard. It's shocking, really.

I didn't find which interface will be used to drive 5K at 180Hz. It seems DP is locked at version 1.4 here so does that mean it would be HDMI 2.1?

I read that DisplayPort 2.1 is used. Therefore it is necessary to own a Nvidia RTX 5000 card or a newer AMD Radeon.

Read the article from Tomshardware by your own. I don't understand. On the one hand, it says that the graphics card should be from the latest generation with DisplayPort 2.1, but in reality, the monitor only has DisplayPort 1.4a. Does that make sense?

Yes, I turn the brightness on my Studio Display (600 nits) all the way up. I have a 5k LG Ultrawide that offers 350 nits brightness and I feel like I'm looking through a dirty milk glass.

The colors are dull, the whites aren't white, and I'm constantly tapping the brightness key to make sure it's turned all the way up.

You control the brightness directly from your Mac, right?
I can understand why you would set the brightness to maximum.

I use my ASD and also the Kuycon G32P under Windows, and I have reduced the brightness on the Kuycon to 32%. This is then comparable in brightness to my ASD, which I had to set much brighter under macOS. Somehow, macOS reacts differently than when I connect a monitor under Windows and adjust the brightness directly on the monitor.
