Wow, isnt that a little pricey for that LCD? Seems kinda high. Cool setup nonetheless.

Let me see.... 5,463.00 NZD (New Zealand Dollars) = ~ 3,728.50 USD (U.S. Dollars).

Yeah, that's kinda high alright. And it's Sony too. Bleh!

But it does look nice. :)

Ah, I didnt realize it was in New Zealand dollars.....thats actually not too bad then. Whats wrong with Sony? I love their stuff.

Thats sounds wierd, I got my Sony Bravia 32" lcd for $1699 on sale at best buy, looks identical. Its kind of wierd. Have you bought the home theater in a box yet? because you can get a much higher performance audio system for the same price. Not to be the debbie downer (yes snl) but a reciever/speaker/dvd separate set up can get you more watts, better quality and beefier cones and woofers. Just my opinion.

I bet the bass sounds great with that cement floor! My wooden house/floor just rattles and flexes on the deep notes:(

Laserdisks? (I still have mine too...) Sounds like someone has been planning on this nice home theater for a long time. Good one!

It wasn't clear where the center speaker got mounted? Behind the screen?

Theres a similar Bravia TV, the S-Series which is the model below the V-Series, is that in NZ dollars cause the NZ Sony website lists the S-Series 32" at $NZD3299

The TV purchased by the original poster is the Bravia XBR. Totally different TV and not even close to identical cosmetically or functionally. Excellent LCDs, if a bit on the pricey side.

I agree with your comments on the HTIB. They often win points for style but the audio usually suffers.

LOL! Well, you did say budget system. Good idea, I'll have to remember that trick. Any special reflective paint?

Yes, I did it on a budget.
Here is the run down.

1. Used seats from a closed down movie theater. $10 each
(Had them reapolstered for $30 each - Seats new would have cost $600 per seat)

2. Sheetrock screen less than $10 (Used Behr ultra pure white flat and had Home Depot convert it to Behr "Gray Tropics" flat

3. Rear and side sheetrock walls Glidden satin black (I have little cousins that come over and I was scared they would mess up a wall painted flat)

4. Front sheetrock wall Glidden flat black

5. White ceiling tiles from Home Depot spray painted using Glidden flat black

6. Purchased lcd projector from pawn shop over 5 years ago

7. Front speakers were a birthday present from my Dad

8. Rear speakers purchased as demos from Hifi Buys

9. Carpet purchased as a remanent

10. Projector mount less than $10 from Home Depot. (The mount for my projector would have cost way over $200)

I initially was going to use curtain blackout fabric for my screen but it will only go so wide.
Sheetrock is cheap and doesn't wrinkle, plus you can repaint it.
When people see my screen, they don't know that it's sheetrock.
Here is where I got the idea the instructions for someone to build a sheetrock screen.

And the DVD's, how much did they all cost?

Actually, after just reading the Summer 2004/2005 Sony Pulse Magazine I noticed that the Home Theater system is also advertised there as well in the newer Spring 05 Pulse, so I may cancel the Home Theater and wait presumably they will release a new home theater for the next Pulse magazine.

Anyone have any info on the lifeline of Sony products, the likelyness of Blu Ray or a hard drive being included or any other useful information?

I'm off to find a Sony Rumors site:p

^^Which appears to be rather difficult

FYI:
www.sonyrumors.com
www.sonyinsider.com
www.spysony.com
www.stylesecret.com
are not useful at all.

I'm considering a new "home theater" system myself right now. I've got the Sony SAVA-700 system right now. It seems that there's a loose solder joint somewhere...I've been getting intermittent cutting out of the front R/L speakers. Considering something with a smaller footprint and separate receiver/speakers to ease future upgrades. I like Sony and have lots of discounts built up through Sony Card and My Sony programs (have already gotten free camcorder and DVD player)...looking at a simple STR-598 6.1 receiver plus a speaker package (still deciding on the speakers).

Although my current system has been behaving itself recently, so maybe I'll hold off a bit longer before upgrading.

TV is said to arrive at shop this Friday (fingers crossed), meant to be getting Sky installed on Friday too.

I have now cancelled the Home Theater:( in the hope that Sony updates it sometime this year;)

I don't even want to think about how much the DVDs cost.
I buy all my DVDs on sale.
I also buy previously viewed DVDs from different places.

G5Unit,

Your system is very nice.
I envy you because I'm still using a crt and I'm too cheap to purchase a G5 tower. A mac tower is my dream machine but I'm too thrifty.
I build my own pcs. I'd kill for OSX on my diy Asus tower!
