It is that time of the year to purchase my new mac computer. I normally go with macbook pros but I just feel now that imacs are the best bang for the buck (the monitor is just amazing). A little background of what I will be doing... I create surf videos on my free time (trying to make it my FT job) and I would like to mess around with music production also as a hobby. There are a few configs that catch my eye. The reason for this thread is to get a good grasp on which upgrades are worth the $.

1)
21inch
2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive
AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512MB GDDR5

Price - $1,579

2)
21inch (2nd base model)
2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
256GB Solid State Drive
AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512MB GDDR5

(Use the SSD drive and have an external using thunderbolt... is this even recommended.) I am pretty savy with computers but I am not sure if I want to install an HD on my own.. it seems pretty tedious.

Price - $1,849

3) 21inch (2nd base model)

Price - $1,399

With using say the new final cut pro or FCX would I see any improvements over the base model with models my upgraded models. I will not be doing heavy CGI or anything on that sorts, mostly editing the shading and color from HD video taken on my t2i.

I am pretty happy with the 21inch, is it one of those things where most people regret not getting the 27 inch for pleasure and resale value. I do plan to sell this machine if I decide to get hardcore into video and would most likely go with a mac pro or hackintosh.

Please insert any more suggestions that you have, I am open to everything.

Thanks again!
