My First Mac and a great disappointment also..
Last friday my iMac got delivered and very happy I first updated everything with 'software update', restarted and went on to copy files from the external HD I had backup up all my previous PC files too.
Soon after flickering started, ending in this (movie made by other user, similar problem: http://gallery.me.com/gianlucamanzo#100191&bgcolor=black&view=grid )
after another reboot everything seemed fine however...Yesterday evening I thought to shut down the iMac for the night which got me to a blue screen with a spinning pinwheel. After some 90 minutes this disappeared and it had shut down..Not really trusting this situation I tried to start it again, unfortunately nothing happened. After removing all cords for >30sec I do get a single "gong" but the screen stays black afterwards.
I tried:
smc - reset --> nothing
inserting os x disc, rebooting and holding 'c' --> nothing
PRAM reset
I only have the supplied wireless keyboard and am not sure if this works to do all the 'holding keys' options, does anybody know?
Any help is appreciated!
