Hello everyone,

I'm looking to purchase the new iMac. My main concern is whether or not I will be able to play MKV files with a Dolby Digital/DTS soundtrack through the S/PDIF connection. I am looking to hook this up to my Logitech Z-5500 receiver through the optical connection. Another important point is that the soundtrack would just be passed through (i.e. not downsampled or anything).

Is this possible?

Thanks for any help and insight you could provide :D

Thanks for the quick reply! I just wanted to also confirm that the latest iMac (as of 16 Aug 2010) has a mini optical connector, meaning I would have to get a converter from standard TOSlink to mini-TOSlink, yes?

Thanks again.

Yes - since it plugs into the headphone socket.
