I have a new iMac and want to transfer information from an old iMac. The new iMac has no Firewire port. I have connected the two computers using the ethernet ports. The new iMac apparently cannot detect the old iMac; it is stuck on "Looking for Other Computers…" I have just plugged in the new iMac for the first time and was attempting to be guided by the Setup Assistant, but quickly ran into this snag. Any suggestions? Thanks.

When you got the new iMac it started with Setup Assistant and asked if you wanted to migrate from another Mac. My guess is you didn't say yes, you can use Migration Assistant now (Applications - Utilities - Migration Assistant) and migrate from either your Time Machine Backup or your old iMac. Because the new iMac's don't have Firewire then you can connect via Ethernet.
