Hi I was given an older iMac with 10.4 and I'm also a new Mac user.

I just ordered 2- 1gb memory sticks from crucial.com as recommended by someone.

I also need the full box set 10.6 to get the latest version.

Are there any other places besides apple where I can purchase snow leopard 10.6 for less?

You can try Amazon for $26.99

Even if Lion is released on July 1, I wouldn't touch it until at least 10.7.1 to allow the early adopters to get stuck with the early bugs.

Exactly what I'm going to do! I never upgrade on day one...I'm just now getting ready to pull the trigger on iLife '11. Figured I'd wait until Jan 6th to make my first Mac App store purchase. :D Just to drive the point home, I waited until I was 36 to buy my first Mac....figured the bugs were flushed out by now!

Seriously, I'd wait until Lion rolls out...then wait an additional month or two then buy it. Of course, it's not like Max OSX is expensive.

On second thought, I know I would get Snow Leopard if I were you. I'd want to get familiar with it before jumping into Lion...it's great having options. Congrats on the machine!

I'm going to take this advice too. Looks like another 10 months or so with Tiger.

The Snow Leopard DVD in the Box set includes iLife. Not sure if there's a second DVD or not.

You pay extra for iLife and iWork, but the OS part is the same.

There are three DVDs in that box. It would be physically impossible to fit them all on one DVD.
