And they are definitely beating Apple on Features and Price .....

My point being ............. WHAT A CRAPPY UPDATE STEVE!!  :( :apple:

(Just wanted to get that off my chest )

I'd prefer to have the card reader and tv tuner external.

Also Apple's fit and finish is on a different level than of those mentioned.

ANNNNND you don't get to run OS X on those machines :(

Nice post though. I like your spreadsheet.

Goes to show that non Apple users also wish to own an All-In-One computer...

That's great if true because then Apple might ditch the iMac (or at least reduce it's importance on the line up) and give us something else more practical

By far the iMac looks the most well made machine in the list but then it's always been different strokes......
If I had to buy an all in one it would be the iMac but I don't [thank goodness] have to have one

The nicest are iMac and the HP touchsmart-.-

What if Apple buys over HP and inside the touchsmart would be Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 ? Super cool !

Edit : If they also combine iMac Design + Touchsmart = iMac Touch ?

1.The design of the other all-in-ones is total crap compared with the iMac's.
2.The other AIOs have Windows.

Sony provides the best value as usual then, well for 'premium' brands/brand's 'premium' line. The problem with it though is it looks too much like a TV, for that much money I'd rather buy a far superior tower and connect it to an actual TV.

The HP's looks have never gelled with me, it seems a little incomplete especially the way they stand it up. The touchscreen is great, one of the better ones out there, but the finger prints? Not to mention it's a tad underpowered.

Dell's entry sacrifices aesthetics for function, a concept Apple will probably never use, with the huge speakers for example. With the lowest base RAM and HD though, it misses out on a bit of value. I suppose upgrades would bring it to what; £1300-£1350?

The iMac is still the best looking in my opinion and the base model provides reasonable value if you can stand integrated graphics.

Basically, as I've always said if I was in the market for a new computer I wouldn't really want a Windows AIO, I'd get a tower with higher specs. Now usually I'd say "but with Macs the Pro is significantly more expensive than the high end iMac", though that isn't case now so I'd get the low-end Pro :p .

The iMac easily looks the best although the Sony is also extremely attractive and just as well built ..... and by far the best featured for the same (if not less) money !!

I think that with MS bringing out Windows 7 this year ..... Apple seriously needs to up the ante on it's hardware or it may well lose a lot of traction (especially in the UK where prices have seen a considerable jump!)

Here's the full advantage list of the iMac:

*Better design
*Fastest processor (3.06 and not 3 GHz, minimal difference, but still faster)
*Lightest:

Weight

iMac 24": 11.5 Kg
Sony Vaio: 15.4 Kg
XPS One 24: 18 Kg
HP TouchSmart: 26.31 kg

*Best GPU: Both the GT 130 (aka 9800M GTS) and probably the Radeon will outperform all the others GPU (unless they're super underclocked):

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

*And most important, the OS: Mac OS X

So really, when it comes to performance and design the iMac is better than all the other All-in-ones mentioned here.

Give Me iMac + KickAss Graphics Card + Dual TV Tuner + SD Card Reader + BluRay Drive + Matching Mouse/Remote + iSight Lens Cover !!

Buy a PC. Your name is particularly fitting. Apple will never give you what you want.

Also, just put a piece of electrical tape over the iSight if you're paranoid about the government spying on you. The light is hardcoded to be on when the camera is on. It's not possible for them to operate independently.

Yup, the new iMac blows the others away in performance ..... but then they have just recently been upgraded ..... no doubt Dell/HP/Sony will bring out better models soon which will make them the fastest ..... until the next Apple revision !!

As far as design, the iMac's are the most stylish ..... but the others are in some way even better designed including the keyboard/mouse !!

As for weight, it might be important for a Laptop but does anybody really care about that in a Desktop ?!

I've been using Windows 7 beta for 3 months now. It's not so "cool", just new Vista. Okay it's lighter and faster but it's still Windows, you need those antivirus programms etc.

OS X beats W7 100-0

An AIO is designed for semi-mobility. For instance, if you want to easily move an iMac from a room to another, you can. It's much more complicated to do that with a desktop.

If an AIO doesn't offer that, then just better get a full desktop, like a Mac Pro.

Myself, I'll be travelling Italy<->Albania on a plane with an iMac (with an iLugger-like bag) 3-4 times a year. That wouldn't have been possible with a tower (size) or a laptop (cost).

Vista is slow and sluggish, Xp is much faster and efficient. Windows 7 is nothing more than Vista tweaked to get back at Xp's speed, but a little faster. So basically, after 8 years, all that Microsoft is offering is Xp with a new interface and a minimal performance improvement.

The thing that makes a Mac a Mac is OS-X. If you don't value that you can get a good PC for less than $500. It even comes pre-downgraded to Microsoft's 8 year old operating system

Which is why Apple only has a tiny share of the Computer Market ..... but they will HAVE to compete now that other big players are seriously getting behind the AIO format ..... and don't forget, Windows 7 will definitely be ripping off ideas from OSX !!

Also, just put a piece of electrical tape over the iSight if you're paranoid about the government spying on you.
Nah, this is much better ..... http://www.theipatch.com/ :)

That's what they want you to believe !! :D

Se7en already is ripping. Have you seen the new Windows Doc– er... Taskbar?

As soon as Apple sees its competitors all-in-ones as a threat, they'll step it up.

Windows have stealed lots of ideas from OS X. Taskbar is straight from OS X. 7 is better than Vista but it still sucks.

Haha i'd have to for sure agree with you mate, Why would the govt be spying on Mac users? We are the Perfectionists.

agreed. apple won't ever please this guy! forget about it.

why don't you go buy one of the all in one PCs you showed us? nobody is forcing you to buy the new iMac.

Why is this PC user even on this forum??? Hahaha

Contrary to popular belief, there are tens of millions of iPod users that only use PCs. They get roped in with the iPod forums and then branch out with legitimate suggestions on how Apple can improve their computers.

Unfortunately, the problem lies in how Apple will never listen to them/us/the hardware loving crowd.:(
