By looking at numbers, it looks to be at least 15% better performance. Not exactly tiny......

I suppose it depends on how you look at it! Compared to the total variance on those charts it's not much!

Wow, the Radeon X300 clobbers the GeForce 5950. I remember when the 5950 was bleeding edge...

There isn't a whole lot of performance difference between the two cards. Get the faster one if you can, if not it won't make any differerence unless you are a gaming freak. In which case why would you buy an iMac anyway? ;)

I assume that even though its pci-express that it is still permanently attached to the midplane assembly and cannot be upgraded later...does anyone know if I am correct in assuming this?

Until someone gets a new iMac or Apple release the normal developer note we can't be sure. It's a fair assumption that it's not a 16x PCIe slot! PCIe is a bit like AGP: it's an interconnect technology, you can have it slotted or soldered to the motherboard.

And Apple will have it soldered on that motherboard because one its cheaper then using a Video card something that has allways kept imac Down and two if you cant replace that card it forces you into a new machine sooner. Shame on Apple Greedy Corporate Pigs.

This New Mac isnt going to show much over last months iMac in Doom3 scores. Its why they threw in all the otherstuff. They needed to show a "newer iMac". My guess is a few more frames if that.

How do the 128MB ATI Radeon X600 Pro & XT graphics cards in the 3rd Generation (current) iMac G5s compare to the 128MB ATI Radeon 9600 in the 2nd Generation iMac?

I have a 1.8GHz iMac with the 9600... how much difference is there between the systems?

And because 95% of the people buying an iMac have never heard of the concept of upgrading a graphics card or never intend to upgrade the graphics card and would much rather have the money off the purchase price instead...
