New Install - Keep Photos and Contact?

Getting my iP5 tomorrow and I want to make it as a new phone rather than restore from back up. My iP4 had bad battery and a bad hold button so I was wondering how I can set it up as new yet transfer my contacts and photos over? I didn't really use iCloud so I don't think It's backed up through it.

Unless you're using iCloud, your contacts will not magically transfer over. That said, I assume you have them synced to a computer or web-based email account somewhere? You'll be able to restore them from there.

As far as photos, iCloud let's you access your photo stream on a new device but it does not automatically transfer photos that were just sitting on your previous phone (and not synced to any computer or cloud system)
