So i have a 256 ssd inside my mac currently. It is full so I am getting a 512 today and swapping them out. Is there any harm in just restoring from time machine or should I use migration assistant? I'm not sure if it will be less optimized one way vs the other?

Thanks for you help

I cannot see that either method is going provide any extra optimizations for you. Just do whichever you feel most comfortable with. Personally I would clone the internal to the new drive (plugged in via USB) and then simply swap the drives - I did this when I recently changed my drive from 128 GB to 240 GB and I was up and running in about 30 minutes.
