Got an iPhone 6S today, as a warranty replacement for a 5S that died. (Yeah, old tech, but new for me - and it was free replacement for my old 5S
It's some sort of refurb, I suppose. Looks good, and mostly works.
By the serial number, it was manufactured in Jan 2016.
I am using it to play a couple of games that I have played for several years.

Phone audio, System audio/SIRI partly works. (the sound that plays when the phone is put in standby does not appear to be audible (I can't figure out how to make that work.)

If I play music, I can hear perfectly through headphone/earbuds. But the internal speaker is silent.
If I ask SIRI to "Switch to the speaker" then the music plays through the speaker. Otherwise, the speaker is silent (except for phone audio or some system response sounds, which play through whatever is normal. Phone audio seems unaffected by audio output changes, just plays OK.
I can't get music app to play on speaker, unless I ask Siri to switch to the speaker. Using headphones always works, and switches to that by inserting the headphone plug.
Unplug the headphone, and silence until I ask Siri to switch to the speaker.

Games (which is what I do most often) good audio on headphones. Unplug headphones, and the speaker is silent. There is no apparent method to switch to the speaker. Siri can not change to the speaker.
I have searched through settings, including "Accessibility", and can't find any kind of setting to help get audio on the internal speaker.
If there is a problem with the headphone jack (something in the "mute switch" when the headphones are plugged in), then wouldn't I have the same problem, even with phone audio?
Again, All works good with Phone call audio. Sorta works (with Siri help) to switch when listening to music.
Doesn't switch to speakers when playing a game with audio effects, headphones only work.

What a fiasco!
Something I learned about iPhones (I don't replace very often!):
That little "mute" switch on the side has a direct affect on the audio.
It was "on" when I set up the "new" phone.
Amazingly - turning "mute" off fixed my audio problems.
Sorry to have wasted reader's time....
