Last month, Apple introduced a new iPad Air with a larger 10.9-inch edge-to-edge display, a faster A14 Bionic chip, and a USB-C port instead of Lightning. It is also the first Apple device to feature Touch ID built into the power button.

Apple says the new iPad Air will be available at some point in October, and ahead of the launch, cellular models of the device have now received the requisite FCC approval in the United States, as alerted to us by MyHealthyApple.com. Wi-Fi models received approval last month.

Apple has yet to provide a specific release date for the new iPad Air, but rumors suggest that the device could launch Friday, October 23, in which case orders could begin as soon as tomorrow. Pricing starts at $599 for Wi-Fi models, while cellular models start at $729, with 64GB and 256GB storage capacities available.

I'm really looking forward to this for our family. School-age children will benefit using this in conjunction with their at home learning.

I'm interested in this but only if it's nice to hold. I'm a little scared of those sharp looking corners compared to the curved basic iPad I use right now.

If they are as dig-into-your-hand honed as they are on an iPad pro, your interest will quickly wane.

My son is waiting eagerly. He bought a iPad Air 3 a couple days before the Apple event. Be promptly returned it and has been waiting ever since.

Still can't believe the new iphones don't have touch ID back but the ipad does. Even if they had to wait a few extra months to launch to get it sorted, it would have been the right thing to do.

Completely agreed, but they would have missed the holiday quarter. More than likely, the hardware for the iPhone 12s was finalized very early this year, so the mask thing wasn't factored.

The pandemic destroyed a lot of people's disposable income. Asking for $1000 in February is a lot harder than in November when people are spending like crazy for the holidays anyway.

My wife was like "wtf, launching with no Touch ID when we're all going to be wearing masks through 2021? Fail Apple."

My only concern with the "new" iPad slim design is the bending and fragility. I'm worried to spend so much money on something that easily breakable, tbh. Other than that i'm happy for the new Air 4 :) Although the price got too steap for budget oriented Air device as we used to.

I usually just walk in to an Apple Store on release day and pick up a new iPad, there has never been a line. Since this is looking like it's going to coincide with iPhone release day, that is a definite no go! Still, looking forward to the new Air I'll just have to have it shipped and held for pickup.

I think it's weird that they got the approval after announcing the product.

They have done that with most of their electronics. I haven’t seen the FCC approval announcement for any of the phones yet either. And in both cases there are already a lot of phones and iPads already manufactured and nearly ready to ship. If something had failed to pass the cost would be enormous.

Apple hasn’t opened the one store they have near me since it closed in the spring. Best Buy may have them for sale but I’d rather not give them money anyway. If we order one it will be shipped to our house.
