Just ordered the new (5th Generation) 9.7" iPad. Wondering if anyone know if iPad Air 1 cases are completely compatible with it? In particular, I'm looking at getting a back protection skin.

I know the iPad Air had a silent/orientation switch which the new iPad does not. Have any of the other buttons/camera moved?

The new iPad 9.7 is the same thickness as the iPad Air 1 from my understanding. Essentially, Apple used the Air 1 casing for this new iPad. And the camera/buttons have the same position. Here is an article listing the dimensions of the new iPad and comparing them to the Air 2/Pro 9.7.
