Hi there, guys. Recently my dad got a new ipad, and asked me to help him understand how to use it since I am the apple guy. One thing I couldn't get to work correctly was the settings icon on the home screen. It just isn't there, and I have no idea how to put it on the home screen. Can anyone help me with this simple but annoying issue?

I did that, but he was asking for an icon to hit instead of searching for it every time.

Hold your finger on the Settings icon until it and the other icons start to wiggle, then drag it to the left until you get to the "first" page of icons. Then hit the home button to stop the wiggling.

I can't hold my finger on settings icon until the icons start to wiggle because there is no settings icon on either of the two screens of icons.

I will show him the manual, but the manual apple provides is for ios 5.1 instead of ios 6.

Ashwood, so do I tell him to search for it, hold down the icon, and then move it to the home screen?

If I can't find an answer I will just tell him to restore it to factory settings because there is obviously something missing.

In Settings, go to General > Reset, then hit "Reset Homescreen Layout." That should dump all the icons out of any folders, and bring the Setting icon back to the first page. My advice is to drag it into the dock, then it will always be avaiable no matter which page you are on.
