New iPad setup question...email notification?

I got my parents a iPad for Christmas and want to get it set up ahead of Time for them with aps, news websites, email etc...

If I do this and use my dads email to register it will he get a email notification so it will ruin the surprise of the gift?

Yes, Apple will begin sending him emails. Plus, unless he has an Apple ID, he'll want to set that up with a card of his choice. I'm sure you'll be setting it up, but he should choose which credit/debit card he wants to use with it.

If he doesn't want to use a card at all, download a free app from his computer and Apple will prompt for an Apple ID. There you can then choose to not add a card.
