New iPad to be carbon fiber?

Interesting part is that it says Apple has already ordered a large number of shells. The only new product which would fit at this time is the mini. Makes sense if they want it to be less expensive and lighter. The mini may just be more than just a smaller iPad2

There is no reason to make a mini shell out of carbon fiber. Cheaper fiberglass or even plastic would be much cheaper and more than adequate.

Why drive the price of the device up for no added value.

Fiberglass and plastic is prone to cracking. Remember the old 3G iPhone that had a tendency to crack after a while? You won't get that from carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is much lighter as well.

I don't believe they will spend that kind of money on a shell for the mini, where they would be trying to lower costs if anything.

Maybe on an iPad 4, but not a mini.
