Can't wait to get my hands on that. Or would they not make it since tapering the edges makes it thinner?

Yea, it will probably happen this year. The iPad got the chamfered edges from iPhone 5 styling.

and new design will bring new issues, new problems.

When iPad Air first announced, it followed iphone 5 design principle. It had that hollow-screen issue which is fixed in iPad Air 2.

iPad Air 2 got a little re-designed with more solid screen and thinner chassis. it was followed with vibration and screen-distortion issue.

There is no chance apple would ship any iPad with a camera ring popping out like the iPhone 6. Their excuse on the 6 and not 6+ was that the 6 was too thin.

Actually, it does look better (the design) on the iPad than it does on the iPhone ;) Wouldn't mind if the Air 3 looked like that.

That's right! The iPad air 2 is thinner than the iPhone 6 and still doesn't have a protruding lens.

Exactly right. That's why I am happy with my iPad Air.

It also doesn't have as nice of a camera as the iPhone 6. While both are 8MP, the size of each pixel is smaller on the iPad than on the iPhone. Apple has also been conspicuously quiet about the optics in the iPad's camera system. I'm betting is uses a 4-element lens instead of the 5-element lens found in the iPhone and that this difference is how Apple was able to fit the camera into the thinner chassis of the iPad.
