I’ve had the PM now for three weeks, upgraded from the iPhone X which I had almost 3 years. I have the graphite 128 GB version. I love the color of this phone personally, but any of the others aside from gold would have worked too. Design wise, I am impressed with the feel and the grip. The X was slippery like a bar of soap, whereas the sharp edges of this new one make it much easier to grasp. I loved the 5 when I had it, and this one brings back memories of it. I sometimes just stop to marvel and hold the phone itself, it really is well built and the premium stainless steel finish really adds to it.
I remember also having an iPhone 6 Plus, and that was very unwieldy and larger in the pants pocket. I think looking back now, the real reason i didn’t care for the 6 plus was because I always felt the screen could have been much larger to fit the frame. Well, with the PM you no longer have that issue as you are getting all screen minus the notch. Not to mention the screen quality being substantially better, it is a joy to look at. In short, with it being a better design than the 6 plus, this slides much better in my pocket and doesn’t feel as much of a brick. Sure, this is still a big phone and I’m 6 foot 1, and my wife’s 12 mini practically disappears in the pocket. But I still think this phone isn’t as big as people make it out to be, I just choose to deal with it better now with all it offers.
I love OLED. I wish my iPad Air 4 had it. But that’s ok. I’m just glad we have it on the iPhone. I do see the improvements over the X which was already a great screen. The brightness on this! Holy crap! I watched some of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns and that HDR looks lovely on the XDR screen. The colors are gorgeous and full, the blacks are rich and the whites are bright without sacrificing detail. Using the big screen for browsing, texts, anything is really fun and while it can be cumbersome at times to hold with one hand, I never have had much issue overall using it one handed when needed. I have larger hands so I am lucky.
Performance is excellent, no lag whatsoever. Everything is snappy and quick. That A14 gets the job done and I still have not come even close to taxing it. I do love being spoiled with 6 GB of ram lol. The camera I need to play around with more, but the photos I’ve taken have been really nice. Using RAW is a nice touch and I’m certainly no professional photographer, but this is the first phone that will force me to utilize all the phone has to offer in terms of the capabilities of the camera system. I have a 3 year old, so this camera will come in handy moving forward, not to mention being able to shoot HDR Dolby Vision video for all the moments we want to capture. From what I’ve gotten so far, I’m pleased. Night mode is new for me, and THANK GOD I can now take photos at night and actually have them come out with minimal light. I see what the fuss is all about.
In short, for 3 weeks I’ve been more than happy with the PM. I fully intend to keep this one at least 5 years or more unless it gets damaged, and with my wife getting and being happy with her mini 12, we are fully set with our phones.
