I've just bought a new iPhone 3GS from Vodafone in the UK. It is a 16GB model. I've just set it all up and was wondering how much space there was for music. That is when I discovered the following on the iTunes summary screen for this iPhone:

Capacity: 6.22GB
Software version: 5.1

Under General>About it states:
Capacity: 6.2GB
Available: 6.0GB
Version: 5.1 (9B176)
Carrier: vodafone UK 12.0
Model: MC637B

Under General>Usage it states:
Storage 6.0GB available, 251MB used.

How can a brand new 16GB iPhone claim to have a capacity of 6.22GB? Is it possible to reformat the phone to the correct size or should I just send it back?

Restore as new in iTunes and see what it turns out to be. An 8 GB phone would have roughly the same amount you state you're having. Are you sure it's a 16?

Apple hasn't been selling 16GB 3GS or even iPhone 4 phones for quite a while now. Sounds like it's actually an 8GB.

Ya Im sure its only a 8GB...not sure what made you get under the impression of it being 16GB....Apple hasn't sold a NEW 16GB since launch of iPhone 4....now iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS both sell in 8GB models ONLY......
