Hey all,

I just got a brand new iphone 4 which came with 4.0.2. I have set it up and activated it. I intend to jailbreak it, and seeing as the 4.2.1 jailbreak is still tethered, I would prefer not to do that yet. My question is, can I upgrade to 4.1? Will I still get the SHSH? Would it perhaps be better to jailbreak 4.0.2 if possible, and install Cydia first?

4.1 is not being signed anymore so you can't upgrade or get the shsh (I don't even think with PwnageTool, but I might be wrong).

To jailbreak the iPhone 4 on 4.0.2 and unlock, you can use LimeRa1n then unlock with ultrasn0w.

You can't upgrade to 4.1 you don't have (and you cannot get anymore) your SHSHs for it. All you can do it stay on 4.0.2 and Jailbreak there (you can use Limera1n or Greenpois0n) or Upgrade to 4.2.1 and wait for the untether JB (or JB with the untethered if you want, but no recommended)

note that if anything goes wrong during the JB and you are force to restore your ONLY choice will be to go to 4.2.1 (due to not having any SHSH saved for any other firmware version), so you got pretty much on bullet on the chamber. ;)
