My wife's iPhone 6s overheats when downloading large amount of data. We bought it yesterday and during the setup process it has to be updated to the latest iOS. While updating, the back-top portion of the iPhone became very hot. The same thing happened today when we were saving some music in Apple Music for offline listening (actually, we were saving a large number of albums).

I wonder if this behaviour is normal or the phone should be checked.

Thanks

CPU intensive tasks like updating and downloading can warm up the device for sure. It is the only way for it to disperse heat as it has no fan. It should not get so hot you can not touch it, but very warm is ok. If it get too hot the CPU with be throttled or slowed until the temps are back in a normal range.
