New iphone - porting number from AT&T pre pay

I have an AT&T go phone which is a pre-pay account.

I want to get a new iPhone and keep my number, but when I go to AT&Ts site it says the number is not eligible to be ported.

I was wondering if this is possible and what is the best way to do this? Is it possible to get a new phone with a new number and do a port afterward?

Yes it is possible, but you have to go into an AT&T store to get it done.
