My wife is giving me an iPhone for my birthday today - Yet, I still have 2 months to go on my old Verizon contract.

Anyone know what would happen if I have AT&T port my number over?

Obviously, I want the iPhone now but may have to wait 2 months...

Thanks.

I ported from Verizon myself. :)

If you only have two months left, you'll owe $75 in early termination fees. They start at $175, and give you $5 off every month, but the least they'll charge is $75, no matter what. It's up to you to decide if it's worth waiting the two months.

I still had 8 months to go, so I just pulled the trigger. I did wait until the last day of my billing cycle, so that I didn't have to pay any part of a new bill. My last Verizon bill was just the $100 ETF that I owed.

If you port it will cancel the verizon and you will pay the ETF. Check your contract to see what that amount would be. I just took the new number and left the Verizon contract alone.

You'll also pay for the whole month of service, regardless of where in the bill cycle you actually port out. This is something new as of about 2 weeks ago.
