New iPhone

Fellow members,

I currently have a launch 8 gig (2g) iphone. A friend of mine upgraded to a 3G iPhone and gave me their 16 gig (2g) iPhone. Can I place my sim card into the other iPhone and use it? If this has been asked before several times, my apologies.

You should be able to, Then you can restore the 16GB iPhone and then use the backup of your other iPhone to set it up exactly as the 8GB.

I thought so but I was getting prompts to set up a new account or a new plan.
Maybe that's just standard operating procedures though.
