New Iphone4 - Trying to hook up to Itunes

When I first attached the USB sync cord itunes opened up and it brought up the screen for me to register the phone. It got stuck and wouldn't do anything so I closed Itunes.

Now when I plug it in, I have to manually open itunes and when it shows my device and I click on it the screen is blank. Sync never comes up.

Help...........how do I sync my phone or get it to recognize it now?
