My iPod 5 is only 4 months old & has started to freeze & crash since I upgraded to ios 8.2 what's with that?

It might only be 4 months old but the hardware design is 2+ years old. You could try disabling some features on the iPod such as messages, nike, etc (don't have mine on me at present). I turned off a number of these, which I don't use and speed has improved.

Check updates again. Another update just came out that fixes many issues.
In settings -> general -> accessibility Turn on Reduce Motion

1) Close all apps that are running.
2) Do a complete power off shutdown then restart.
If that doesn't work, the best I can think of is contact an Apple store
