I remember last year, Apple made the education deal where if you buy a Mac you get a free iPod nano (which is the same as this year)

Around the time the deal ended, the iMacs and iPod nanos were updated. Was Apple trying to get rid of the old first-gen iPod Nanos and the first-gen Intel iMacs to replace them with newer versions?

Could this mean that the iPod nanos are going to be updated as well? We haven't seen an iPod nano upgrade since September 12th, this is a good time to introduce the 3rd-generation of nanos.

you are dead on about the imacs, but if the rumors are true and the event on the 7th is a mac related event, then the nanos will perhaps be updated later this month or in september. (hopefully alongside the full size ipod)
