I am looking to buy a new ipod and have a few questions.
I am looking to get either a 20 or a 15. I calculated the price and and if i were to get a seperate dock and wired remote, the price of the 15 gb would be about 366 with tax. this isnt even w/ the included belt clip.
The question i have is:
is it possible to use an ipod as an external hard drive. I havent been able to look to much into in, and i know how quick people on these forums are to help. Also could i just use my ipod for music without having the music on my iBook. Thanks

The answer to your first question is yes. You can use the iPod as an external hard drive. It shows up as a drive in the finder when you enable it to act as a firewire drive.

As for your second question. You can have the music on your iPod and then erase from your mac, but iTunes will not be able to retrieve it back from the iPod. By having it on your mac it allows iTunes to sync with your iPod.
