So tonight I updates my MBP, so itunes was part of my update. Now when I try to sync the ipod, I get one of those unknown error -50 messages.

I've troubleshooted everwhere else...restarted comp and last I even did a restore, nothing.

Genius bar here I come Friday

Any suggestions to get my touch to sync properly again before I go for a replacement

Thanks

he shouldn't have to dfu restore it's not a case of his iPod wont restore its that it wont sync due to this error 50

this is correct, i shouldn't have to do anything in dfu mode, especially since its not jb.

i tried all night, rebooted, restarted itunes, restarted ipod, and nothing

Tis isn't directly related but I think one of the HUGE pluses Apple has come up with recentlyy is the Time Machine. I never used to back up. I now have a large music/photo collection and Time Machine was so simple and a 500 gig drive so cheap. I've had one big problem in the past year but with a back up drive on my shelf it's no big deal.

I agree and I have a back up from a few hours beforehand. So basically I updated to 8.1.1 and OS 10.5.7 and now I can't sync. I tried all the troubleshooting possibilities I can think of and from the Apple Support webpage. Can it be because of the updates? I'll find out tomorrow when I go for my doctors appt at the genius bar.

Apple Store

Go meet with someone at the apple store or call a apple specialist 1-800-MY-APPLE

nobody has had any problems syncing with 10.5.7 (mac) and 8.1.1 (itunes)?

ever since my updates 2 days ago, i get errors and cant sync

apple even replaced my ipod today and the new one is giving me the same errors. this is one bad nightmare.

anyone with input?

hope I don't have to archive and install back to 10.5.6 because thats the only thing I can come up with

TIA

have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes from Apple.com?? if not see if it would work if still no good then trye reinstalling (downgrade to previous version) iTunes since it worked with that (assuming it worked with the previous version) and just ignore the iTunes update if the ipod works then that is
