Coming back to the world of Apple after a looong absence (I think the last OS I ran was System 7.5) and looking for a 15" Macbook Pro.

Here's the dillema - I'm trying to decide between a refurbished early 2011 vs a new late 2011 2.2 GHz 15" machine. I do some photo editing and a bit of gaming but nothing too extreme. Since the costs are nearly identical I'm trying to figure out if the larger HD and better video card in the refurb will outweigh the benefits of buying new.

New
2.2 GHz
500 GB HD
AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB GDDR5
Cost (assuming $100 off on Black Friday) $1749 Cdn

Refurb
2.2 GHz
750 GB HD
Intel HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1GB
Cost (assuming no Black Friday discount) $1739 Cdn

I'd go with the refurb for the benefits you mentioned. Apple refurbs have a good reputation around here. I just got my refurbished 13" MBP a week ago and it arrived in excellent condition.

I would go refurb.
They look new
they function like new
they come with warranty
they are a great deal.
Get the refurb. Trust me :)
Also for whatever resason u are not happy with it- you have 14 days to take it back like a new model

I'd recommend the refurbished MacBook Pro for the tasks that you are looking to perform because you'll be getting a slightly better value for your dollar.

Go for the refurb as everyone else stated.

Apple refurbs are pretty much brand new and you get the year warranty.
Plus you get the 1gb video card vs 512.

I just got one off of ebay (used) and got it for less than apple was charging for the refurb 2.2 without anti glare.
