My old 2.6 ghz 8gb ram 1tb spinner hdd Mac mini would take over 1 minute to boot. The new M1 boots in 17 seconds flat. Even from an external thunderbolt 2 Lacie orange mini 2.5 hdd with a Samsung evo 860 I think. it was boots in 28 seconds. So 17 is not bad. And the pics. Installed geek bench 5 trial. First pic lower number is 2014 mini. Second pic is M1 mini. Huge improvement. Both 8gb of ram.

I am coming from 2 Mac Pro since 2007. first the 3,1 then the 6,1. I refused to pay for the new Mac Pro and was nervous about buying the M1 Mini but have to say, I am thrilled. Although I haven't had issues with the limit, I wish they gave the option for more than 16GB RAM.

NOTE: people are right about one thing, Bluetooth craps out for my mouse at least once per day. just 1-3 minutes and I've tried only one device BT or 5, doesn't change the fact that 1/day, my mouse will have seizures all over my desktop when I try to move it

use a wired mouse

Poor BT kills any desire for this machine (for me). Hope they sort it out for the next revision.
my understanding is that it's a design issue that's been an issue for the Mini for a few years now. I read those complaints and bought the M1 Mini with zero regrets.

Can they use eGPU yet?
No, but I read this when it came out and by the time I may be ready for that use case as I am not now, should be a viable solution

I thought this part the most interesting....The lack of support for external GPUs in Apple Silicon M1 Macs may only be temporary, as a connected eGPU is still detected, but doesn't do anything.

I never has bluetooth issue on 2014 mini. ButI use microsoft arc mouse no issues. It has a usb dongle so its wireless and no bluetooth needed.

I don't use bluetooth.

However, from reading the experiences of others in this forum, bt has been problematic on the Mini long before the m1 CPU came along.

A Fishrrman slightly-shaky prediction (take it for what you paid for it):
So long as the Mac Mini continues to be sold in its current form factor, bluetooth is NEVER going to achieve its full potential. This has to do with the design/location of the internal components -- too much interference from other things.

If bluetooth is the be-all, end-all factor for you, look at another Mac.
Or... consider some kind of 3rd-party bt adapter at the end of a dongle (to get it away from the Mini's chassis).
