This past weekend, I finally quit putting if off and picked up an M1 MBP(8gb/512gb, the best config in stock at Best Buy).

So far I'm loving it, and I've managed to mostly get migrated to it from my faithful MPB 9,1(although I'm not sure I'll completely quit using that one any time soon).

In any case, most everything is working great except that, for some inexplicable reason, I can't get my Photos to sync via iCloud and can no access them from my new computer at all.

This is what I see under "Apple ID" in System Preferences

When I check "Photos" I will see "checking Library" for a second or so, and then nothing else happens.

Syncing works fine between my iPhone, my MBP 9,1, and a few other Macs, so it's not an issue of them not being there. As can be seen, it's not a lack of iCloud storage, nor is it a lack of local storage(~200gb free).

As a secondary issue, for some reason Messages has a huge gap between Oct. 1st and Sunday when I started using the computer. I'm having zero issues sending or receiving current SMS or iMessages, I just have a big gap of stuff I'm missing. Does anyone have any guesses as to why this might be happening? I'm wondering if that's an issue of them not being stored correctly to iCloud somewhere along the way, but don't know.

Still no luck and no ideas on this. I tried "jumpstarting it" by connecting my phone directly to the computer(BTW, charging over USB-C is a treat) and importing the library, but I still can not get sync to work as above.

When I try to set it up directly by Photos, I'm directed back to System Preferences.
