I just picked up my M2 Silver, base model MBA and I've been playing with it for a couple hours. I'm comparing it side by side with my M1 MBA to see if the newer model is worth the money. I already have a buyer for my M1 MBA but I'm not so sure I'm 100% sold on the M2 model. I figure my M2 MBA will end up costing me about $500 once I sell my M1 MBA for $750.

Anyone else in the same boat as me as far as wondering if the extra cost is worth the upgrade?

is that $750 for a base M1 Air? if so, pretty good resell ! especially considering they are often 899 new on sale.

If you upgraded for faster performance you're probably going to be disappointed. M1 to M2 isn’t going to feel very different with daily general purpose computing tasks.

The real question is, for the money, do you think the new form factor and screen will make a difference to your life?

My M1 is in 100% perfect and flawless condition. Only 37 charge cycles on the battery.

ive had mine since December 2020, and 102 charges / perfect shape. hmmm. lol

Apple's $400 trade in is doing me no favors if I were to go to M2 Air.

Pretty much same story here... The real debate is if I want to sell my m1 on Swappa and get the 14" MBP... I don't think so but that's WAY more compelling for me than the m2 MBA.

I am rethinking my compute strategy the more I learn about M2 MBA. I care less for how it looks, or thin it gets or camera. I purchased M2 16 GB and 1 TB to replace both, my stationary needs and on the go. It seems that I wont be able to use that effectively when stationary - too much throttling and heat. After spending $1700, I am debating if I should return and pick up base M1 MBA for couch usage and m1 mini 16GB, 1 TB for desktop usage. Those two computers will cost me only like $100 more that the MBA M2 itself.

Having held both, the M2 form factor is really really slick. Feels way more awesome in the hands than the M1.

But I saved $350 by picking an M1 so for my usage I’ll stick with the old laptop for now.

Keeping both... My intent is to leave my M1 Air at my home in the UK so I no longer need to travel with a notebook. Problem is, this M2 is so damned nice I'll always want to use it!

8/256 base model Starlight. Love absolutely everything about it, could care less about the "issues" that are discussed with the base model, and will absolutely be keeping it. Sidenote, this is the most comfortable laptop I have ever used, including previous MBA models.

That says a lot for you and the M2.

With all the outrage about Apple getting rid of the wedge, I sm surprised we didn't hear anything more about typing problems for said people on the M2. I remember seeing 1 comment thus far about pain typing on the M2.

+1 I feel the same way! I absolutely love the new design/form factor of the M2!

I feel like that would obviously involved a number of factors, and vary per user of course, but I see no difference in this design vs previous MBA models as it pertains to typing ergonomics. The only difference in typing experience I have noticed is that the keys themselves seems to feel a little ... more "stiff" (if that's the right word) vs my experience with the M1 MBA. Either way, it's a wonderful typing experience, and I think this keyboard actually makes me a better typist.

I noticed the travel is more shallow on the M2 versus the M1. The M2 keys feel more spongy to me.

Yup. I don't want to explicitly use the word butterfly on this forum, but I can't help but think that this keyboard feels like the perfect blend of the Magic and Butterfly keyboards.

Got the base MBA M2. I upgraded from a MBA 2012 that called it quits on me just recently. It was such a trusty laptop.

Thus far I’m liking it, although the keyboard on my MBA 2012 felt smoother… I think. Overall, the new MBA feels better than I had expected in terms of form factor.

Anyone in or around Newcastle. Space Grey and Starlight base models are in stock in Eldon Sqaure.

I upgraded from a ...
Wait for it....

17" Mid 2010 MacBook Pro , that works absolutely great, but i really needed the sync features with my IPAD that i take on sales calls.

I just started laughing my ass off when i started using the M2. Its light years faster. But really this just goes to show when you invest in these machines, they really can last a very long time.

I did not have 1 single issue with the MacBook Pro 17". Other than it weighs more than my dog.

SO. Yea. I am keeping my M2 and I will be getting a new IPAD Pro when the new ones release. I am praying that the 14" really happens!
I just wish they would come out with a touch screen laptop!!!
My life would be complete.
