On my current 2011 iMac , I ended up putting the OS and apps on a thunderbolt 128GB SSD and the user directory on the internal 1TB HDD.
I am getting my new 2015 iMac today with a 512GB internal SSD and have a 1TB USB3 SSD. I cloned the internal HDD to the USB3 SSD thinking that I would keep the setup the same but now am not sure what is best. Should I keep the setup this way or remix it so that the /library/ part of the user directory moves to the internal SSD and the external SSD holds the Documents, Downloads, etc folders?
Options I've thought of but no idea if any of these options are valid when it comes to having a split setup.
1. Turn on new iMac and use setup assistant with the 128GB SSD plugged in to grab apps?
2. Turn on new iMac and use setup assistant with the 1TB SSD plugged in to grab /library/?
3. Turn on new iMac and setup as new. Download fresh copies of all apps. Point to SSD as user directory?
Thanks!
