So I got my 1.83 mini today and am setting everything up. I have a 250gb external USB hard drive that I was going to set up with it but when I plug it in nothing happens. I am new to Macs and am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Is the drive formatted? If so in what format? Does it show up in Disk Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities)?
When I checked it on my XP pc it says its formatted FAT32
No, its isn't showing up anywhere on the mac.
So just to confirm you have connected it to the USB port, connected any required power adaptor and run the Disk Utility application from /Applications/Utilities? I would expect that it shows up in Disk Utility. If it does not then your Mac is basically not recognising it as a disk at all.
