What’s the chance the new Mac Mini ‘Pro’ is announced Monday?

I use a 2018 Mini, i7 16Gb 1Tb for music production and have started to see slow downs and the occasional crash to desktop. I’m chomping at the bit for an M powered Mini to finally leave Intel behind and move on into my future of computing. The M1 Mini was tempting, but if there is a Pro model around the corner, count me in.

I hope so!!! Been wanting to get the M1 Mac Mini for a bit now but been holding out ever seems there was wipers for a maybe “Pro” version coming out after the iPhone event! I’m running a 2014 iMac 27” and its starting to really struggle due to some issues it haves. And was orignal going to pickup the 16GB M1 Mac mini.

So hopefully on the upcoming event they announced a new Mac Mini! If not I will probs pick up the normal M1 Mac mini!

Wow, funny hearing you guys complain about slow machines as I'm running a 2009 Mac Pro and drooling to buy the updated Mini.

The old Mac Pros are amazing machines, however they belong in a museum nowadays. Mine will still run reliably 24/7 without missing a beat, but struggling with far too many software compatibility glitches on Mojave and I have concerns over online security in future. That's why I am using an i7 mini 99% of the time, but like others I think a new higher spec mini will be the one we all want.

I'd like a Mac Midi. But it would either have to come with a beefy GPU for gaming, or have eGPU support.
Time will tell but according to the rumours it will have impressive graphic performance. From the videos I have watched on Youtube it all points to serious production machines aimed at more demanding users.

No one on YouTube knows anything. They do it for views.

We only know that it would be faster than the M1 GPU.

They are generally working off information from people like Kuo and Gurman, who are fairly reliable. Nothing is 100% certain until release, but given the already impressive performance of the M1 in most areas it doesn't take a genius to work out that an improved update aimed at more demanding users would have some real muscle.

100% lol. I've heard its going to be available to preorder Monday after the event and I've heard it will be available 4 days later on Friday. Some say Apple will be delaying it further than Friday, lol... its coming sometime soon. I have my $1500 ready for Apple to take whenever its available lol

New Mac Mini ‘Pro’ October 8th?
I can tell you with 100% certainty there was no Mac mini release on October 8th.

None of the reliable leakers have indicated a Mac mini release next Monday. At best they are saying it will be sooner rather than later. From what I've seen, the ones that are claiming a Mac mini release next week have no inside information.

I will be hopeful, but I am not counting on it by any means.

I would say it should have a reasonably beefy GPU, and there is almost zero chance of eGPU support.

BTW, that Mac midi name is cute, but I still prefer just Mac mini over both Mac midi and Mac mini Pro.

EDIT:

Don't have high hope for eGPU support in future Apple computers. Especially not trough Thunderbolt.
You beat me to it!

Zero chance for the 8th (since that has already passed), I'd say about 40% chance on the 18th. I'm no longer expecting it, but wouldn't be shocked if it was released.

I'm praying for an M1X Mac Mini on Monday. It's mainly about the RAM. If I can get a 64GB M1 or M1X Mac Mini, I'll order it in a heartbeat. My 2009 Mac Pro is really showing it's age now.
what kind of work do you do? that's mainly what i'm looking forward to. 16gb is not enough for me, 32gb is perfect

If Apple is showing an improved ASi SoC in new 14" & 16" MacBook Pro laptops, I see no reason wy they couldn't also show these same improved chips in the Mac mini format & kill off the remainder of the Intel CPUs in the Mac mini lineup...

A bit of a mixed bag. My wife and I run a small healthcare company and I manage the finance and technical side of things which means a lot of fingers in a lot of pies including a Windows VM that I use a *lot*. Nothing intensive in there (payroll software) but just having that virtual machine open all the time hogs a chunk of my RAM. I've got 96GB in my Mac Pro atm but that's overkill. I wanted to upgrade to 64GB a few years ago and found 96GB for half the price from a Chinese supplier so just went with that. 32GB would be workable but I feel like 64GB would be more comfortable. I'm sitting at 83GB used out of my 96GB at the moment with a few week's work of windows and tabs open but obviously, if it's there, it'll use it.

So yeah, in general, the M1 is likely ok for my actual performance needs right now (seeing as it beats my 12 core MP by a chunk in both ST and MT workloads already) but 16GB is nowhere near enough. M1X Mac Mini with 64GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD? Yes please. Take my money! Maybe I'll get an Apple Silicone Mac Pro in a year or two when they finally come out too

A couple points there @Spanky Deluxe. First is that I don't believe you can run a Windows VM on Apple's new silicon computers as you might like and it might be better to grab a recent intel while you can. There is an overview of the situation here https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/run-windows-10-mac-free-3802337/

Secondly, is that M1 machines seem to be vastly more efficient with ram than intel and spinning ball is a rare occurrence, even on the entry level 8 gig machines. Based on numerous reports I've heard from others who have bought the M1 there isn't much that will slow down an M1 with 16 gigs of ram. There are guys out there doing some pretty heavy video work smoothly on the current M1 mini.

I am hoping Apple also < releases / debuts / shows / whatever > a new Mac mini & a new 27" iMac, as both of these products would seem perfect for new M1X chips...?

I am hoping for two variants of the M1X:

10-core CPU (8P/2E)
32GB RAM
16-core GPU

10-core CPU (8P/2E)
64GB RAM
32-core GPU

Variables would be either of the two M1X configurations, amount of SSD storage (512GB / 1TB / 2TB / 4TB), and Ethernet (Gigabit / 10Gb)...?

I, for one, would be pretty chuffed for a new Mac mini with:

10-core CPU (8P/2E)
64GB RAM
32-core GPU
10Gb Ethernet

Would be a great holdover whilst waiting on the Mac Pro Cube, and the 10Gb Ethernet makes it perfect for future use as a renderfarm node...?

You can run Windows 11 Arm in Parallels and Windows 11 Arm has 64bit x86 emulation built in. I don’t need high performance in the Windows app that I use (Sage Payroll), I just need it to work. If push comes to shove, I do have x86 machines I can do that on and screen share into but I suspect that Parallels will be more than fine.

Correct. But I think, they will simply discountinue the Intel lineup and that is.
For another couple of months only the M1 Mac mini stays. And than... ;)

Doubt Apple will discontinue any Intel Mac until there is an Apple Silicon replacement...

And it makes perfect sense to offer a new Mac mini with the M1X chips; the first ASi release was two laptops & a Mac mini desktop, why not repeat the same...?

Plus, many folks will want a Mac with the new M1X chip, but not all those folks will want a laptop, so Mac mini it is...?

Ah ballbags, guess I'll be using my old 2009 Mac Pro for a little while longer yet. Still, hopefully there's an M1 Max Mac Mini somewhere soon around the corner. Ordered a 14" MBP for my wife to replace her Surface Book with so I'm still excited to see the new tech.

Yes, wallet safe for several more months. Perhaps I might even be able to make use of the Back-To-School sale next year.
