Hi guys,

I feel stupid for asking this but I do not upgrade my computers nearly as often as my phone so I feel out of the loop.

I have a 2013 imac running Yosemite and on Tuesday my new MacBook pro arrives. I am hoping to activate my mbp from the external hard drive attached to the imac which is regularly backed up with time machine. My hope is that in doing so, all my usernames, files, media, etc will transfer to the mbp similar to the way a new iphone is activated and restored.

I then plan to erase and restore imac to factory settings. I assume all this is doable and not difficult. Any input, advice, suggestions?

Thanks!

Phil

Choose to migrate your data, apps and settings from Time Machine during setup and you should get a nearly duplicate computer when comparing to your iMac.
