New Mac: Power Mac G4 466MHz Digital Audio

It's spring break and I was down in Aptos, CA. The plan was to go to Santa Cruz and go to the boardwalk (which I did afterwards) but I looked at craigslist just to see and this guy was selling Power Macs, he had a 450MHz, and 2 466MHz each was $10. So... after heading a bit up the road that you take to Mystery Spot, I came to the guys house and received my new Mac! Inside his house there were a ton of macs, and his main was a Pismo G3. He also had 2 G5s with bad motherboards and wanted $40 each, which I didn't have on me in cash.

But, here's the specs, can't wait to go back to a place on Wednesday and use it rather than look at it in a hotel room! Actually people gave me looks taking it into my room

Very nice! Just the RAM and HDD were worth the 10 bucks. Somehow I've never owned a graphite G4.

Me neither! I've owned a B&W, MDD, and then 3 G5's. My B&W is haggard but this Graphite is in decent shape, besides the scratches on the logo and near the bottom. Insides are spotless. I've wanted a graphite for years, and now I'm happy to have the last model

The PowerBook Medic serial thing reports this as a 733MHz Quicksilver, which it isn't!

Ya somehow I kinda missed the G4 PowerMac era. I've got 2 MDD towers and 2 Cubes, but I've never owned a Quicksilver or any graphite model. Maybe someday! I'd love to get my hands on one of those dual 533 models or any of the old dual processor PowerMacs just to compare to some of the higher MHz model single G4's I own.

My 466 is still ticking after all these years. It was the first Mac I really built. If you can find yourself a set of Apple Pro Speakers, they sound divine with the DA.

LOL. No, not too much. Pan over to the right off screen and there's a Quad Core Intel Xeon sitting next to my right leg. Keep going and you get a Gateway and a Dell. Those two Macs are the balance of the PowerPC Macs at work. Everything else is a PC or my G5 across the way.

Home's a different story, hehehehehe!

This would have been sometime in 2002 I think when I worked at the Arizona Capitol Times. About two years before my current job.

That's me in front of the Mac there. The building was being photographed for an architectural magazine.

No idea what processor this G4 had (I wasn't using Macs then, except at work so I never paid attention then) but it was there in late 2000 when I got there so it couldn't be more that a 450 AGP. Probably a PCI.

I always liked seeing old pictures of places using a G4 of some sort!

My grandma is using it right now, and checks email often in which every other one is usually a YouTube video or pictures. The thing handles YouTube with lag, but not a skip in the audio

Not yet on this mac, I was surprised, the YouTube videos were playing inside TenFourFox and I didn't install any plugins besides Adblock!

They must be playing as HTML 5 as TenFourFox has disabled plugins following version 17.

Just thought I would add...

I have a G4 466 DA too. I could be wrong but I was told once that these are not "graphites". The graphite - i think- is not blue and white but gray and white. Then there were the Quicksilver (?) which was all translucent white.(?)

The Digital Audio PowerMac as well as the PCI G4, the Sawtooth/AGP Graphics, and Gigabit Ethernet are all graphite PowerMac G4's. The grey ones include the Quicksilver and Mirror Drive Door models.
