Hi everyone,
Just started using a Mac again this past summer from a twenty year PC run.
I've moved up quickly and now also just installed a MAC PRO 3.ghz 8-core (old model) at home over the weekend. My question is if I did the right setup to get the full advantage and speed from the computer especially for video editing (final cut studio) and design work (illustrator).
Installed 8 gig of ram to 10 gigs total.
Installed 4 500gig HDD and software raided to 0+1 (finder showing only 1t now)
1. Is this the optimal setup.
2. should I buy an external scratch disk for capturing and working with projects with FCP.
3. Would it need be (scratch disk) 7200, 10,000, 15,000 or even a solid state drive. Boosting up the cache 16 or 32?
4. Better off buying two small drives and raid 0 them. Would I still need a faster drive and more cache?
5. These drive should be esata or can firewire or USB drives be used without getting into extra cards and such.
Thanks for your help and I look forward to your recommendations.
Phil
