I'm going to go for the stock 300gb drive, could I buy another and do software raid 0 for a performance boost? If so, does anyone know the model number?
Booting from a RAID 0 set is a bit tricky. Apple's Knowledge Base evidently says you can't do it, but users report they have been able. One thing to note is if you do use a RAID 0 boot drive, have good back-ups because losing a drive means losing all your data.
I could not find an Apple part number. You'd be better off just waiting for the machine to arrive, see what the HDD manufacturer and part number is, then order it from a third party supplier.
Gotcha. I've ran raid 0's since 2001 or so. I've never had any issues with drive failures or array errors. I do backup my data though to be safe. I run software raid 1 on CentOS right now, so I figured why not.
