New mac pro quad 2.93 or 8 core 2.26?

I'm trying to decide between these two models. I'm a film student and I use pro video apps like final cut, motion, and shake.

I initially ruled out the quad core after hearing it would only support 8 gb of RAM, but recently read Other world computing's claim that it supports up to 16 gb. Can anyone offer any advice? And is anyone currently using a quad core with more than 8 gb of RAM?
