Hi, I would be very grateful for any advice.

I recently bought my first Mac (a 2012 Mac mini with Mavericks) but have no other idevices and don't really use a mobile phone daily, it's usually left in the cupboard! :)

Also I tend to use OneDrive for any online backups (as I have a free 25GB allowance) and don't use "reminders" or "contacts" just online email accounts, Yahoo, Gmail etc.

I understand, normally, two stage authorization for the Apple ID (for optimum security) and using iCloud and Keychain would be the best way to go, together with allowing "Find my Mac" and "Allow user to reset password with Apple ID."

However, in my situation, I was thinking of not bothering with two stage authorization for the Apple ID and just relying on a long strong password and the security questions. Then (as the Apple ID security would not be optimal) I would turn off iCloud and "Find my Mac" plus uncheck "Allow user to reset password with Apple ID" so if my Apple ID did get hacked they could not lock my Mac or wipe the HDD. Obviously if the Mac is physically taken then I cannot find, lock or wipe it myself! :(

I keep a strong admin account password safe (so I cannot lose it), have lots of backups of my data (including the few iTunes purchases I have) and do not visit the areas of the web that are considered most dangerous.

Can anyone advise whether this sort of setup would be a viable, fairly secure alternative?

Many thanks for any replies.
