Hoping to get some advice here. Bought an open box / refurbished MacBook from CDW and it arrived today. I booted it up and it looked brand new except no cellophane on box. Battery cycle count is 0. I registered it to my iCloud and enabled Find My Mac and setup Messages app and it's working well. It shows up in my iCloud account.

I went to try and add AppleCare+ and Apple showed a purchase date of 9 months ago... it lets me purchase AppleCare+ if I want to. I stopped at the checkout page.

I contacted Apple support and was told to send in the proof of purchase to get the purchase date updated, which I uploaded via a link they sent me. I called back in and was told my MacBook is registered to someone else and there's nothing they can do unless CDW updates the owner or I send in a receipt with the serial # on it. The one CDW sent me doesn't have a serial # on it. An Apple senior advisor told me the MacBook can be in my iCloud account and registered to me, but there can be a different owner other than me? I even enabled Find My Mac.

I contacted CDW and they are looking into it on their end, but I might need to return the laptop to them if it can't be sorted out. I made a second call to Apple and I was told that maybe I just need to wait 24-48 hours for Apple's systems to update and that could be the issue. Anyone ever deal with this before?

I had a heck of a time involving what, after about two weeks of calls and patience, turned out to have been a seeming mistaken association with my Mac's serial number with some other entity on Apple's part. While it's one of the most extraordinary stories I know involving an Apple product, I won't elaborate here except to say that letting other people check things out, and regularly checking on them until I was satisfied they'd done all they could, was the correct course of action.
