Upgrading from a MacBook to the new MacBook Air andi noticed something weird. Not sure if this is considered normal, so I thought I’d ask others for their feedback.

When looking at it from both sides, I notice the slightest ‘groove’ towards the front side of the computer where it connects to the bottom piece. From the middle to the back it’s perfectly flush.

My old computer was pretty much perfect, so I’m wondering if this is considered normal or not for the new MacBook Air.

Here are some pictures!

Although I've not received my Air yet, I'd consider that a manufacturing defect and return/exchange it

Definitely not something I'd live with.

Is it really a groove, or is it possible that the panel just isn’t in right. I once had a 13” MacBook Pro that shipped with the panel partially popped out. I snapped it in place, and never had an issue with it.

The rear of my 2020 MBA was the same - i returned it for a different reason (a dodgy arrow key) but I have been using Macs for years and I have to say that this model seems to be less well built than previous ones. I ended up splashing out on a 16" MBP instead and so far it seems a better built piece of kit. Maybe the price drop has led to some corner cutting?

I haven’t noticed any difference on mine. It sounds like you got one that slipped through QC. Where Apple is cutting costs for the Air are in the display, SSD, etc.

My 2019 MBA had a weird pop from the bottom lid any time i picked it up one handed. I guess it was flexing but it made a popping sound and it annoyed me to no end. Maybe the bottom lid needed to be more rigid. I'm hoping the 2020 model won't have that.
