My sister just got a new 11" MBA, which is so beautiful. I got to set it up for her and everything, nice sister she is.
Anyways, she has lots of pictures, videos, apps, and contacts on her iPhone 3GS, will it erase everything on the phone if I sync it to her computter? I've read things here and there that it will.
I want to sync what's on her phone to her iTunes and new laptop, not sync the empty laptop to the phone and erase all.

If you could just fill me in, thanks.

It'll erase everything. You'll have to transfer from the 3gs to the computer first, or from her old computer to new computer, using a separate software and then put that into your itunes library.

Can I transfer everything on her laptop through iTunes? Or do I need to download some software?

Is she already on a mac? If so migration assistant will do it for you.

She never has owned a Mac, and doesnt know the last time she updated her phone.

Backup on her old computer, find the location of the iPhone backups (not sure where they are on a PC) and transfer with the iTunes library to her Air, should be fine.

How come going into iTunes and going to transfer purchases doesn't work? Does that only do what you've purchases through iTunes only?

That's correct.

This. Once you transfer all of the old iTunes library stuff to the new Air, copy over the original iPhone backup to the folder where iTunes keeps the backups in finder (google it). Then just plug it in and it acts like nothing changed.
