I've recently purchased one of the new Macbook 2.4 with the 250GB drive in it, and the system profiler indicates the drive has a data throughput of 3.0Gb per second. Not sure about the 2.0 or not. Many of the newest drives have this faster data speed.
What I'd like to find out is, would one get better/faster performance with the current hard drive running at 5400 rpm and 3Gb/sec throughput or an older 7200 rpm with 1.5Gb throughput.
I do realize that a newer 7200 rpm drive with 3.0Gb throughput would be the ideal solution, but currently have one of the older drives in hand, so am pondering this question.
Also, is this a design/feature of theses newer drives or is this an update to the new Macbook. I don't recall the 3.0Gb throughput speeds on the last gen Macbooks.
