Hi all,

Just received a new MacBook and have a couple battery questions:

1. I just checked my battery health and see that there are 3 cycles already. I've only used the computer for a few hours, at most. Do new Macs come out of the factory with a couple cycles already registered, or is it possible that my Mac is not 100% new? I bought from B&H.

2. I'm at 80% battery health with brightness near the top setting, with Bluetooth on for an Internet connection but no Wifi. Estimated remaining power is 3:50. Is that normal? It seems awfully low for a supposed 10-hour battery.

Thanks!!

1) that is normal. It just tells you that your battery underwent some quality control tests.

2) 3:50 seems awfully low for such a new system alright. Maybe contact the vendor?

i think the battery needs a couple of days to calibrate

Your Mac is probably indexing the file system and doing some other under the hood things. Give it one day or two, and battery life will increase significantly.

Looks like it may be okay after all. With some light Safari usage, it has about 9 hours of remaining power from a full charge. Thanks.
