I just bought the new aluminum Macbook 2.4Ghz. I am connected to a Motorola WR850G wireless router which connects to my cable modem. I get a full, strong signal from my wireless router, like I always have on my old Macbook (which I just sold).
Anyway, casual web browsing works fine for me... BUT, when I'm downloading large files -- anything that takes more than a few seconds to download -- the transfer rate will randomly drop to zero and I lose all internet connectivity. Meanwhile my airport icon still shows a solid 5 bar signal. The only way for me to regain connection is to leave my network and rejoin it. No error messages or anything like that. This problem happens very inconsistently... sometimes every 30 seconds or so, and sometimes 10-15 minutes. Also sometimes it will resume downloading after a couple of minutes of no activity...and sometimes it won't.
I've spoke to my ISP (Optimum Online) and they tested my cable modem... all good. I don't think it's my wireless router because I haven't touched any of its settings since I got the new Macbook. I used iStumbler and didn't find any nearby networks on the same channel as me (they are all on 6, I'm on 11).
I have all of the latest software updates installed, including the recent airport update. I looked around on Apple's forums and found several others who are reporting similar issues as mine. Could this be a hardware issue?
Any other ideas, anyone?
