I just got my new MacBook today (2.16 ghz) and it seems to be having audio issues? I was chatting with video chat with my friend and I could hear him fine. Then all of a sudden i noticed the sound cut out. I plugged in my ipod and sound seems to be cutting out on that too.

When I hit the volume keys, a circle with the line shows up like it's muted or something and I can't turn it up or down. I can hear the system sounds okay like on restart, but everything else seems to be acting weird? I only have 1GB of ram, but to me that should be suffice until I get more.

Any else hear of this? I hope I don't have to return it already to applecare, I just got it!

sound like you have something connected to it thats captured the audio output, which is why you cant turn the volume up and down, check the sound out put in the system prefrences, if that dosent help make sure you dont have a bluetooth headset or something connected,

and if that dosent work reset your pram that will default your audio settings

resetting PRAM and NVRAM

1. Shut down the computer.

2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

3. Turn on the computer.

4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

6. Release the keys.

I will try that if it happens again. I placed it on a table and it seems to be better. Perhaps it was overheating sitting next to me on my bed, though I had it half on my lap so I didn't think it would be an issue.
